My friend Ideene was on Conan the other night!  I basically peed when I saw her.  Conan mentioned the All Star thing in his monologue and they went to video of the Mets mascot flicking people off and crowd reactions.  In the montage they showed Ideene flicking the mascot off in return.  It’s all very classy.  But then Conan talked about her!  It was pretty sweet.

It’s on Hulu if you want to pretend to be interested.  The segment starts at 5:30 and Ideene is at 6:40ish.  I dunno, it was pretty cool.

I saw this today, and it’s one of the best things ever:

Bacony

That’s all for now.

Add to Memories Tell a Friend

The shoot for the Lifetime film the other day didn’t go as I had hoped.  I was interning as a production assistant and had been asked what I was interested in learning.  I told them camera and film, because I’ve never even been around actual film before, and it’s an entirely different thing from video.  I know nothing about film, MSU doesn’t teach it, and it’s embarrassing because that’s what I want to work with for the rest of my life, you know?

Well when I actually got there, there was no learning involved.  I did a bunch of manly things like setting up tents and unloading equipment trucks.  After that, when they were ready to film, they put me and the rest of the PAs (Pennsylvanias, or, if you must, Production Assistants) on “lock down,” which meant I stood outside by a door for literally five hours to make sure nobody walks in to the film set.  During that time I was completely alone and separated from the production, except to hear the occasional “cut, we’re going again in two minutes” over my walkie talkie.

After we had dinner I asked to be closer so they let me watch for the last hour of filming (gee how nice of them).  I still never got to learn anything or ask questions, but I at least got to see the camera, and how they light for film, meter, measure focal distance, etc.  I took a few pictures but they’re pretty worthless because of my effing cameraphone.  Descriptions are in tooltips for each image.

So that sucked, although I’ll admit it was fun to see everything even if it was completely hands-off and brief.  This was definitely a well-budgeted professional film set.  They shot on super 16mm film with Panavision equipment.  They were all professional actors, we had craft services and a catered dinner.  One of the makeup girls did special effects makeup for the film Titanic.  There were whole crews for each department, like one guy that just changed the lenses, one guy that just pulled the focus, etc.

I’m just really glad I didn’t come away from that seeing how it “really is” and not wanting to do films anymore or something.  I was worried that might happen.

I finally decided on the new phone I want for renewing my contract.  I decided on the Samsung SLM because I like how it feels in my hand or something creepy like that.  And it has all the good Bluetooth profiles and the faster HSDPA 3G protocol.  But best of all it’s free.  That should be coming Monday.  I’m pretty excited.

Sickeningly excited. *segue*

Yes, I seem to be sick.  It started last night in my head, really weird, um, head feelings.  Today I have it really bad and a swollen tongue somehow?  Weird man.  I’m going to the doctor tomorrow, but I think it might be a stroke.  So if I wake up and don’t know who any of you are, it’s not a malicious gesture I assure you.

Ж-Men...but not the ones you might expect!
This week LJ Russia launched Ж-Men, a new comedy series about superheroes, inspired by the LJ communities dedicated to superheros, comics and cartoons. The title's "Ж" comes from ЖЖ, the nickname for LiveJournal in Russia.

Ж-Men's script is written by a group of LJ enthusiasts who also happen to be television professionals. Who knew? Following the premiere, five more episodes will be broadcast over the next two weeks. We hope you find the series fresh and enjoyable.

This is, of course, an experiment for LiveJournal. As always, we'd love to hear what you think!

So I've been writing a lot of emails lately. Not a huge deal, and not even on the same number of emails that Michael writes in a day but still its been more then I usually write. MIchael wrote one of these blogs ages ago and I can say that I finally came close to doing what he did.

When i write to michael i sign my emails with something like this

love you,
allison
xoxoxoxooxox

But that's for my Michael and that's cute.

But when I'm writing to lets say MY BOSS at work. Probably not ok. *sigh* I almost slipped up yesterday and it still haunts me. *shudder*
That would've been awkward as hell.

Awkward.... especially since I was writing about moving in early. *snicker*

Hello my fellow lovers of life!

Things ahve been intresting to say the least. I'm going to school full time, working at least 35 hours a week, getting ready to be 19, go to L.A. which go moved back due to Douglas going to Spain but that's life.

Um...for those you you who follow my home life my dad moved out for the first time ever. He was gone for about two weeks to his moms and I'm not really sure what the developments are because after the first night of me being home alone and people coming over and trying to get in...pounding on the windows and such I told mom i was staying with Chris.

8 months for Chris and I and still going strong. OH since my birthday is in 25 days i don't know what i'm doing at all really but if you feel so inclined as to help me out with my travles I would most appreciate it. If not well a nice happy birthday will be fantastic.

Love you guys hope everything is great for you too.

Filmic

Add to Memories Tell a Friend

I just found out a few hours ago that I’m interning on that Lifetime film and I start tomorrow.  So this is suddenly a busy week, with 12-hour shoots for that in Royal Oak the rest of the week and meetings at MSU on Wednesday.  Oof that’s a lot.

But Google Maps assures me this was meant to be, because in the driving directions this appears:

69 for Big Beaver

Maaan too much to do though.

My internet connection has been sort of spotty lately, despite the fact I’m supposed to have 10Mbps downstream (though I never have pulled more than, say 3 Mbits).  It’ll just go out and websites will just sit at “connecting to server.”

But if I open up a terminal window and start a looping ping to charter.net, it magically comes back.

Net neutrality issue?  I wonder?

Read if you haven't already please :)

an odd feeling

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
I recently met 2 really great (gay) guys through a friend from Frankenmuth and one online

One lives in California and one lives in Alberta, Canada

I've been talking to both of these guys every night for nearly a month, and in each case (right off the bat) we made it clear that, because of the distance, this was a friendship only type of thing. It's a good thing that they both live so far away, because they are both perfect... and if they had lived closer... i would not be able to decide between them

tonight both of them are no longer single...  isn't it odd that both of them became this way within such a short amount of time from each other?

While it saddens me that it really means that i won't be with either of them, I feel something different... something i don't think i've every truly felt before in any situation remotely similar to them: I am ecstatic for both of them!

I can't exactly describe the feeling, but my heart flutters when i think of how happy each of them are now, and it's a great feeling. Unfortunately... it reminds me of my own, single, state.

Congrats to Cam and BJ, may both of your separate relationships flourish and bring you all the happiness you each deserve, and may our friendships last for months and years to come!

Hopefully the right someone will pop up for me, it doesn't even have to be soon... for someone that will truly bring me happiness it is worth the wait

Here’s a blog post that has been saved as a draft since last February!  I don’t know why I haven’t published it.

If you want to see a really weird but awesome movie, fire up your NetFlix and look up eXistenZ.&nbps; Friggin’ sweet.  It’s based off some of Philip K. Dick’s work, most blatantly The Three Stigmata of Palmer Eldritch (which is also pretty great).

The acting is pretty terrible, especially in the end, buuuut awesome movie overall.

My friend Connie is shooting a film for Lifetime (Television for the Ladies) in Detroit.  Something about rape or something.  It’s major enough that they close down a few blocks for the production, and Connie got an IMDB page, which is my #1 goal in life.

Anyway they’re shooting on Super 16 (actual film!) and I had a relatively messy nerdgasm when I found that out.

Well today she told me that she forwarded my resume and contact info to her line producer.  That would be a really good foot in the door situation.  Additionally the production company is based in New York City, which would be perfect, given my silly plans.

I assume nothing will happen and I will remain unsuccessful and greasy.

But it would be cool.  That’s all I’m saying.

On Amazon there’s a CAT V cable selling for $428.68.  Yeah, seriously.  But check out all the reviews, it’s the funniest thing I’ve seen in a while.  An excerpt from my favorite:

In a nutshell, digital bits should consist solely of “1″s and “0″s. Unfortunately, low quality cables will distort the digital data, causing some “1″s to become values such as “0.93″s or “1.12″s or even “2.08″s, for example. Likewise, some “0″s will be changed to values like “0.2″s or “0.13″s. The problem is that circuits such as digital-to-analog converters and tri-state digital buffers can’t process these distorted bits, and they remain stuck in the cable. Eventually the cable becomes so clogged that data transmission slows to a crawl as bandwidth is gradually reduced. When this happens, the defective bits can only be removed by stroking the cable with a neodymium magnet while orienting the cable to magnetic north. Few people bother to go to such effort, instead preferring to periodically replace the clogged cable with a fresh one.

Ummm, my contract with AT&T is up for renewal, which means I can get a new phone fo’ free if I renew.  Right now I have a RAZR V3 which is eehhh.  I was looking at the Samsung Sync or the Samsung A437 Slate.  The A437 looks cooler but doesn’t meet my one main requirement: that it be able to sync contacts over bluetooth via iSync.  I guess the bluetooth is crippled to only working with headsets, not computers?  That’s pretty lame.

Anyhoo does anyone have suggestions for a 3G cell phone?  Nothing fancy like a smartphone, more like on the level of the RAZR?

Last Sunday I went down to Royal Oak for David Cooper’s 21st birthday!  That was pretty fun.  After some chinese we went around to a few bars and watched him get all hopped up on the alcohol for the first time ever.  He was doing really good and then towards the end, bam, it hit him.  Aaah that was good.

Well that’s everything.  Nothing interesting but I just wanted to update because I haven’t in a while.

Okee doke.
